- WHY YOU SHOULD SUPPORT THE EDUCATION OF AN ORPHAN OR A VULNERABLE CHILD IN UGANDA?
TERM ONE OF 2023 OPENED ON 6TH February, 2023
Education is the process of imparting or acquiring particular knowledge or skills as for a profession.
Education in Uganda is administered in English.
In Uganda, the system of education has a structure of 7(seven) years of primary education, 6 (six) years of secondary education which is divided into (4) four years of lower secondary and 2 (two) years of upper secondary school, and 3 (three) to 5 (Five) years of post-secondary education.
An academic year for primary and secondary education is divided into 3 terms. Term 1, 2 and 3 respective and term 3 is a promotional term. Each term is between 12 and 13 weeks.
The three main types of education are; formal, informal and non-formal.
Why do orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda need education support?
An orphan is a child whose one or both parents died whereas a vulnerable child is a child due to living in a chaotic household like domestic violence, parental mental health issues, and history of abuse including risk of forced marriage, familial child sexual abuse, physical and emotional abuse and neglect.
Orphans and Vulnerable Children need education support so that they can achieve the following benefits;
- Those who get an education have higher incomes
- Those who are educated have more opportunities in their lives
- Educated people tend to be more healthier
- Societies with high rates of educated people have lower crime, overall health, and civic involvement
- Education provides learners with the space and the opportunities to meet like-minded individuals and students make contacts through extracurricular activities as well.
- Education enables students purse their passion
- Education enhances personal development of skills since students are required to go through many types of assignments, discussions, courses during their time in education
- And many more
Orphans and Vulnerable children deserve to be empowered so that they can have a better future at only $40 per month for primary and $80 per month for a child in secondary.
